Okay sushi. Probably one of the best sushi place in Little Rock. However, coming from Los Angeles and San Fran..the sushi isn't impressive. The sushi isn't the melts-in-your-mouth kind you can find at coastal cities. The selection isn't very big. You can find the staple tuna, salmon, etc. However, if u want to experiment with stuff like the puffer fish, you will be disappointed.

This is by far the best sushi place in Little Rock... and the world. Having spent time in Hong Kong and Japan, Sushi Cafe ranks up there with the best sushi I have ever had. Their rolls are incredibly creative and packed with flavor. They have a huge selection that offers a wide variety of sushi. The wait staff is usually very attentive and helpful with suggestions. The only downside is that it's tiny and if you go after 6:30pm on any given night, you have to wait anywhere from 15 min to an hour for a table. Also, making reservations means nothing - they don't hold tables. Having said that... the food is so delicious that it's worth an hour wait. This is definitely one of my 'go-to' places in Little Rock.

Do I knock off a star for the $2 green tea? (the Bay Area owner should know better). Nah, this place is too welcome an addition to the Heights for anything but a fiver. Sushi rolls are the highlight. Get there early.

We went to Sushi Cafe to celebrate a friend's birthday. Unfortunately, the staff there was awful. Dylan (not sure on the spelling and do not necessarily care) was very snobbish towards us and seemed to feel as if he were doing us a favor just taking our orders, which were either wrong or took too long to serve (i.e. cold salad underneath a heat lamp for 30 minutes). It's unfortunate because I have heard very good things about Sushi Cafe, and it was the birthday guest's favorite. I would imagine things could have been handled a little differently, considering they were extremely busy for a Tuesday night. I will say, however, having been a waiter myself at one point in my life, you don't tell a patron to "hurry up with your order" or ..."i will have to pay for that salad if you do not pay for it," nor do you not write orders down when you are already having issues with keeping track of who is ordering what. The experience just turned me from ever wanting to go back. I am a very understanding person, but my patience was tested last night and after hearing how he talked those in my party, particular the ladies, I was done and will not be coming back to this establishment.

Manager or Owner, I ate at Sushi Café last Monday night, the 25th. 1. I arrived around 6:45 and after a minute and several staffers walking past me with no word, I flagged down someone who got the host. He seemed a little frustrated and flustered. I was received with a snotty attitude and a put out demeanor. He asked if I wanted to sit at the sushi bar, I had to decline twice. Doesn't matter how many times you ask, I still don't want to sit at sushi bar. I was told to "wait over there" and motioned to some bistro tables. I made it clear to him I did not appreciate the attitude. 2. I walked to the bar after I determined I wanted a drink and happy hour was ending. I had to flag someone down there too. I was told it wasn't her section and she would get someone for me. I was met with a gentleman that tried to explain the division of whatever, why I couldn't get a drink there or it wouldn't transfer to a table or whatever. I explained I was already irritated with my treatment so far. So I got my drink 3. Great waiter, told me he was training that evening and he was sorry for any earlier confusion with the staff. "Thank you" 4. Fly flew into 1 piece of sushi, I was told since we were sitting so close to the door that leads to the outdoor sitting area, it happens. So, it's my fault??? Nothing was offered to replace or take off bill 5. My guest ordered a kettle one martini, the waiter asked her if she would like to try the lemon kettle, she agreed. Half way through drink, our waiter approached, asked if she liked her drink and confessed he just found out the kettle one was traded out for Absolute, due to "they" needed to empty the bottle. Huh?? Really?? I have to say the food was very good and I have had sushi from Hawaii to Boston, but I will not be returning. I hope you use this letter to adequately train your staff, that having pride in your work (not making excuses, serving incorrect beverages on purpose, and snotty attitude) develops character and integrity. I was told the owner was gone that week. When the cat's away, the mice will play.

This Place was AWFUL!!!!!! Stopped in about 8:30 tonight. The place had quite the late night patrons for a Monday night a hour before they close. I started off with a mi so soup which was very very salty.... So then we ordered a couple rolls and some nigiri. They were out of conch and Kona Kompachi so we went with a Japanese snapper and marlin. It all came out relatively fast by the Mexican workers (no Asian to be found) The sushi rolls were tasteless there was no vinegar or nothing on the rice. The rice was overcooked and very mushy there were no defining grains of rice just a white mush. The piece were falling apart and very unevenly cut. The fish was all hacked up like Stevie Wonder and and Ray Charles were in the back cutting it up. We took a few bites and looked at each other and decided we would not eat any more. We told the waitress she talked to the manager for a minute and took 10 bucks off the ticket. The manager never came over and asked us what was wrong or anything. I AM SO ANGRY AND DISGUSTED with that sushi place. The fish Stunk and was not pleasant. I wanted to force myself to throw it up it was so BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Sushi Cafe. I love the atmosphere and the food. I wish it is a little larger, but the wait usually isn't very long. I get the Bento Box or California Rolls. The fried rice is perfect. I love the edamame. Highly recommend.

Hands down the best sushi in town! A lively intimate spot in the Heights. My girlfriend and I are huge fans of the spicy Dynamite & sweet and perfectly seasoned Blue Dragon rolls. The only negative comments I have is seating is limited and booths are only reserved for parties of 4 or more. Also, music is tuned to pop music not what I would expect. So, Other than that come early during happy hour before 7pm and you won't be disappointed. An experience you will not regret!

Best sushi in Little Rock! So fresh and yummy! The restaurant is small, so expect a wait. However, it is well worth it. The fish tacos are yummy as are the desserts. But it's the creative rolls that make the Sushi Cafe a must. The Hawaiian roll is loved by many, as is the lobster roll. Overall, it is pricey. But at lunch you can get a HUGE bento box for 8 bucks. By far, the best sushi in the Rock City.

The food is great, but the service knocked it down from four stars. It's hard enough to spend $100 to have someone serve you raw food, but when I do drop a C-note on sashimi I better get stellar service. Never the case here.

Surprisingly, some of the best burgers in town. Fresh sushi, great menu variety. One of our favorites.

Probably my fave sushi spot in LR because of the atmosphere. Very hip vibe in The Heights. Food is never disappointing. I wish I could comment on the other dishes, because their menu really looks amazing...but we ALWAYS go for sushi. The best roll I've had was the Louisiana Roll. Other than the horrifically hot jalapenos, it's amazing. Such a big variety of rolls...I always try something different. Service is hot and miss. Its never been awful, but last night it was a little iffy. The waiter only looked at one of our sushi order sheets, so only half of our order came out at first. But when we brought it to his attention, he corrected it. I noticed he forgot the appetizers at the table next to us...so maybe he was having an off night. Definitely will keep going back And trying new sushi.

We came here for dinner and happened to make it for Happy Hour. They had $5 house wines, cosmopolitans, and raspberry margaritas. My sister and I both ordered the raspberry margaritas and it came out yellow! I couldn't believe it and then when I tasted it, it was so sugary that I felt it like I was receiving an injection through my straw into my body. Never order the raspberry margarita- EVER. Thankfully the Wok Fired Edamame and sushi rolls were much better. We ordered 7 different kinds of rolls and my favorite one was the Dynamite roll with lightly fried yellowtail, peppers, jalapeno and topped with spicy crabmeat! YUMMY! I could have eaten the entire roll myself. We also ordered the Green Dragon that has grilled eel, cucumber, avocado and eel sauce. It was OK but wasn't mind blowing. The eel should have a stronger, bolder taste which was lacking. My brother's favorite is The Bomb. This is spicy crawfish, crabstick cream cheese lightly fried with special sauce. I think it's hilarious when they write special sauce. Why does every special sauce always remind me of thousand island? I also liked the Spice Girls which had spicy tuna, salmon, cracbstick, avocado and fiery hot sauce. We also ordered a few sushi house rolls such as the spicy tuna and a Philadelphia roll. I've never been a fan of the Philly roll. Service was OK. They also tried to seat us in between two tables full of people but we asked to move to a larger area which really helped. Our waitress refilled our drinks but after most of our glasses were empty. If it wasn't for the food, I would have given them a lower rank. Saved by the food.

The sushi is pretty good but the service could improve. Not sure if we just come during a bad time, but it seems so hard to get our tea's and water refilled. My friend would have to walk around looking for a waitress. I would rate this place a 3.5 star but if the service was better, rating could go up a bit. Favorites: Blue Dragon (Coconut shrimp, crabstick, cream cheese, kiwi on top with sweet chili vinaigrette): Yummy Robata (Salmon, avocado, cucumber & crunchy batter with flying fish roe, eel sauce & crabstick): Minus the flying fish roe was good! Vegetarian Roll (Avocado, Cucumber, carrots, and other things): Nice and light Pink Lady (Spicy tuna, salmon, crabstick avocado & fiery hot sauce): Minus fiery hot sauce bc I'm too chicken): Good! This is the best sushi in town so far, but it doesn't beat the sushi in California - Sorry!

Hmm, so, short story - the sushi is very good! Service was excellent, and the prices were excellent for sushi. Also, there's a great Happy Hour! I particularly recommend the spicy edamame and HH fries (never had Tempura french fries? You, dear reader, are missing out!) Long story- I've been here three times now, and I hesitated to review because... Well, quite honestly, it's confusing! On my last visit, my wife and I came in for a casual dinner (which this place is perfect for!) and were seated at a nice table near the back. Our table was next to the hallway leading to the bathrooms and kitchen. There was a small dividing wall between our table at the hallway. Now, most of the bar is "mood" lit to the point of being a little difficult to read the menu, while that hallway was office-building off-white. Sitting in my seat, my left eye was in the hallway getting burnt out, while my right was in the dark-dark-dark romantic lighting. My wife, behind the dividing wall, was blissfully unaware of this and in the romantic side. But that odd straddling of romantic and... Not romantic is all over this place. I mentioned the super dark lighting, and the tables are nice for a quiet dinner for two - but there are TVs *everywhere.* Which is strange for a sushi joint, and really messes with the romance. Even the extra-cozy lounge out front, which is separate from the bar, would be even better for date night, but even it has two TVs in it. And between the dim light and the small space, the light in the room flickers with whatever is on. I would expect that in a sports bar, but not so much a sushi restaurant. Still, good food, good service, comfortable seats, good prices, and a nice variety on the menu - definitely high marks for all of that! It just... leaves you feeling a little strange, like you don't know if you went out for a date or a Super Bowl party.

Service is everything! Walked in the "manager" (said his name was "Pang" immediately looked at his watch. we asked if we were too late and he said no we are open another hour. He placed us at a table which we asked if we could be at the booth right next to it. He said no the section was closed. We pointed to another booth across the restaurant and asked, again he said it was closed. Seeming Irritated he set down our menus and napkins and walked off. We obviously were not want to sit at that table, yes being picky we didn't want to sit on the one table that was in a major walk way, specially when there were many other open tables. We opted to sit at the bar. The bartender came and took our drink orders and I joked about getting I trouble because I'd be looking at the tv instead of talking to my company. He said well go sit at that booth. We told him we were told we could sit their because the section was closed. He said we can sit were we want and to go. Now that's the service I expect. We when sat down and Pang came storming over saying we can't sit their. We told him we were told to sit here. He said the other guy doesn't know what we can and can't do and that he is the manager and said we can't. We got up embarrassed and frustrated and told Pang we were leaving. Again, zero attempt to fix the situation, apologize for the inconvenience... I feel some one want to make sure they closed on time. Service is everything!

Ok- Been back twice since then and it's not their fault that something a patron did should influence my taste buds so this is all about the food! And how is it?? The names of some of the sushi are fun and don't exactly do justice to how awesome it tastes. The food is always flavorful and the ambience seems to be that of a hustle and bustle scene which makes me feel good when I get back to the Big Rock from the bay area. I like the signature dishes as well as the standards. They have an AWESOME Hamburger too! Seriously Hit this place up!

The sushi cafe was the first time I ever tasted sushi. It was so good and have been back multiple times. I love sushi now and the sushi cafe is the place to get it in Little Rock. I have been to other sushi places and they are not as well as the sushi cafe.

Let me start by saying my wife is a big Sushi Cafe fan. I have always enjoyed it, but most sushi taste the same to me as long as it is not bad sushi. As we now have a child, we do not get too many grown up dates. So we were excited. We were greeted with a sign stating their card machine was down so would have to pay with cash or check. An inconvenience, but no deal breaker. We were seated on the patio and our server eventually made it to us. I don't remember his name, but he had a blonde pony tail (I shall call him PT) and seemed as if he might have just finished a "smoke break" out back. Started off with a bottle of sake and their spicy edamame, Edamame came out after maybe 10 minutes. Not saying that is a long time, but it does seem like a while for edamame. I would like to say the sake came out in that time frame, but I can't. Probably 15 minutes after we ordered it, I asked PT if we could get it. After a few more minutes of searching, we were informed that "they must be out." Not a huge deal, just ordered another bottle. Took 5 more minutes. Our sushi order was fairly straightforward, 4 rolls. At this point maybe we were just being sensitive to how long things were taking, but it seemed like an eternity before they arrived. PT did not bring individual plates. We had to ask another table's server for those. We also had to ask her for more water, as we asked PT 2-3 times with no results. Overall sushi was still good to very good. Review based on food alone would probably be 4-4.5 stars. We were really looking forward to getting back to Little Rock and eating at our sushi restaurant. Unfortuantely, PT put a slight damper on things. Also, Sushi Cafe, please turn the music on the patio up a tad. You could very easily hear everyone's conversations, which leads to you not holding very in-depth convos.

We came into town and met up with friends that recommend this place. I was a tad skeptical because it wasn't rated as high as others in little rock. The sushi was terrific and the service wad good at best. At the door they were super attentive but at the table we didn't have drinks as often as we would have liked. I think the ratings are a bit low. 4 stars is probably more appropriate.

Coming in from the east coast to visit... Got $200 worth of sushi , got my rolls after watching Everyone else finish eating... and they couldn't see fit to bring more pickled ginger I asked for when there was only enough on the plate for 2 pieces of sushi... Will not be back... Overpriced and bad service... And the whitefish was slimy... Bla...

Visited this restaurant for the first time with some friends last night. Service was extremely slow, and food was so-so. We all ordered different rolls of sushi and none of us were all that impressed. Especially for the amount we were paying. The environment is pretty and clean, but the choice of music playing ruined the atmosphere quite a bit. It was very loud and upbeat. Made it difficult to hear the conversation of my friends sitting just across the table. By the end of our meal, we were practically shouting at each other. I'm not sure if this is the look they're going for or not, but it was very unpleasant. Especially sitting in a dining area and not the bar. May have just been that night, so I'll be giving it another go in the future. Overall, I rate this place average. Nothing too fantastic that would really bring me running back any time soon. They do not offer military discount.

Nice place to bring a date or check out the classy MILFs and cougars that roam this restaurant, that is if you are single. Wait staff was nice and accommodating, even suggesting dishes/appetizers to order. I visited the restaurant during dinner hours so it was a bit slower to my liking, but I understood that I'm not the nucleus of the world, at least not at dinner time! I ordered sushi and sriracha edamame suggested by the waitress. Food was good enough to warrant a re-visit. I would suggest for guys to wear at least a polo.

I heard a lot about Sushi Cafe and wanted to check it out for myself. I have tried several sushi restaurants in Little Rock, and they can be classified as either dismal or good. I am happy to say that Sushi Cafe falls into the good sushi restaurant category, though I almost walked out. I went on a Saturday night and the restaurant was fairly busy with people waiting for tables. I noticed about eight empty spots at the sushi bar so I sat down. Then the "maître d " came up to me and said I couldn't sit down myelf but needed to see him. I got up walked over to his desk, turned around and he sat me where I just got up from. ???? OK a little bit of an ego trip but I stayed nonetheless. I ordered several pieces of nigiri sushi and one roll. The nigiri sushi was fairly decent; however, the saba (mackerel) was not very good and I doubt it was saba. I was disappointed as saba is one of my favorites. I had the "Heights" roll, which was not bad but it had a little too much cream cheese for my taste. Sushi Cafe has a good selection of wine for a sushi restaurant. The menu is more than a typical sushi restaurant with even burgers and fish tacos. I was a little surprised but it works. The interior of the restaurant is trendy, modern Asian. There is good number or seats at the sushi bar and the dinning room has tables for 2 to 10. Sushi Cafe was definitely filled with trendy, beautiful people on a Saturday night. If you want to be seen but with the added benefit of good food, wine, and cocktails. This is the place. Excellent place for a date but be prepared to wait for a table. The mainstay of sushi in Little Rock are sushi rolls. To impress, order some of the more exotic rolls, which the sushi chefs present very well. I would be prepared to spend $75/person between dinner and drinks. Could be a bit pricy for Little Rock but overall not bad. Parking is a bit of an issue in Kavanaugh area of the Heights. There are a few mini strip malls nearby with their shops closed at night and are a good alternative than trying to drive around aimlessly looking for a spot. I will definitely go back to Sushi Cafe. The size of the sushi pieces are good. I've read some reviews that say this is the best sushi restaurant they have ever been to including in Japan. ... OK, so I guess they know the owner because Sushi Cafe is a great sushi restaurant for Little Rock but anywhere else, and it would be average. There was a small neighborhood sushi restaurant where I lived in Seattle that was far superior in quality than Sushi Cafe. If you are used to sushi from somewhere else, you will not be impressed, especially with the nigiri or sashimi, but keep in mind your context. Little Rock is not known for its sushi but BBQ.

All the sushi was great that we ate. I was shocked that their ginger salad cost $5 for a very small bowl. Over all the wait staff was pretty good but get ready to fork over $$$$ for lunch. I will go again, but I'll skip the expensive salad!

Thanks to some good friends, I had the opportunity to try Sushi Cafe for dinner. To be honest, I don't like sushi and was under the notion that this was (basically) what they served. I was happily wrong. In addition to an abundance of sushi selections, Sushi Cafe's menu is also comprised of plenty of appetizers, salads, burgers, steaks, and other entrees. My husband and I split some type of green curry dish, which was excellent. I look forward to going back! Prices are a tad steep, yet you can find a few coupons if you try! :) Also, Sushi Cafe was packed while we were there on a Saturday night.

I think you will receive service neither bad or good depends how light your skin color is. Me and a Middle-east friend came in, it was like 15' before the dinner open time. We understood so we waited. About 5' later there was a white mid age guy coming. Now keep in mind that no one have greet us even tho these was full of staffs. A guy stood right up to ask if he can assist him and show him his seat. Well we left, pissed off. I don't care how great the foods is but they have no idea how train staffs. They won't see me here.

I came in here over the lunch hour and had the Pineapple Chicken off the lunch menu. It was really good, a little more pineapple then what I like, but overall delicious. I didn't get a chance to try out the sushi bar or a cocktail, but if I make it back here I will definitely try it out.

Sushi Cafe is a solid, not spectacular sushi restaurant. Menu is a little weird, but they have some pretty good rolls. Fish is decent quality and reasonably priced. The location and space are great, though countered by not-always-so-attentive service.

Was told to eat here by one of my work colleagues and was not disappointed in the quality. Had two specialty rolls (Arkansas and Rainbow) and a house roll. The rolls were beautifully prepared and tasted fresh. I ordered my food "to go" so cannot speak to the service or other restaurant attributes. In general this placed served some darn tasty sushi.

I have now visited this place twice, with similar results both times. I have a hard time believing it is rated as highly as it is. The problem with this restaurant is that it doesn't have its own identity. It suffers from some sort of illness that seems prevalent in the Heights area by which restaurants try and do too much, losing themselves in the process. Their menu is a Frankenstein amalgamation of styles and there are entirely too many options on it. During my first visit, I had mainly sushi. It was good, but not anywhere near the best sushi in Little Rock. Their appetizers were rather unfortunately bland. On my second visit, I had the red curry, which was neither red nor curry flavored. The chef who designed this menu seems fond of putting pineapple in EVERYTHING. The dish itself had too much going on to fit its own description. Food does not have to have 30 ingredients to be upscale. This restaurant would benefit greatly by scaling down its menu and simplifying many of its dishes. My parents and wife were similarly unimpressed and do not intend on returning. I had high hopes for this place, I really did, but I have been disappointed twice and do not wish to spend any more of my hard-earned cash on what I perceive to be overpriced Chinese buffet fare.

Hmm, they're alright I guess. Don't get me wrong from the rating, I really do love me some fried-everything-you-could-want rolls, which I perceive as a totally different form of food from Japanese sushi, kind of like how I'll eat chicken balls with red sauce with the same kind of glee as a Cantonese banquet. But anyways, I'm rambling. I came here on a Saturday night looking for a fix of some good ol' American style sushi, and that's what they had. Maybe it was my fault for showing up so late (partly due to the vague as hell hours listed on their website, where they're open until close), but the rice in the rolls was atrocious. No distinct grains, just kind of this indistinct ricey starch paste smooshed into a roll shape. The fillings and toppings were good and tasty, but the rice was just ehhhhhhh. I think I've had better rice from a grocery sushi tray. Also the Spice Girls roll could've stood to have a little more heat, but my tastebuds might be still burned out from what I had for lunch. I don't remember them having this problem the last time I was there but that was sometime along the lines of years ago so I'm not sure if I had a particularly off night in the sushi rice world, or if things have gone downhill since my last visit.

The best thing I saw was the inside ambiance. Really cool, updated and retro modern. I had the LOL sushi lunch combo (the Arkansas roll & A kinda spicy tuna with salmon) and both were a little heavy on the mango/mayo spicy sauce so the real flavor of the roll was somewhat muted. I payed the $2 charge for the ginger salad that was nothing like what I have ever had at any other sushi place. It was a small spinach salads with red onions, a few slices of tomato with really neat ginger/orange dressing. Not what I expected but pleasantly surprised with the different taste. This place as far as taste just did hit my level of average and did not inspire me enough to invest my time to drive off the path to come back and fight 10min for the limited parking space.

I was a little skeptical about going to a sushi restaurant in Little Rock AR, but this place was pretty good. Everything I ate I had them make custom so I have no clue how their menu is, but they had some nice looking rolls in there.

Great sushi! I brought my wife and 5 year old son with me. We sat at the sushi bar, and the chef, Jose, interacted with my son about how and what he was doing. Very good place to eat. Jose was very helpful in suggesting great choices for us. I have not had much success with Sushi in Little Rock or North Little Rock, but Sushi Cafe is the best around.

  • Sidney H.

This place has mediocre sushi at expensive prices. And bad service is included as a special bonus. After I received a menu at the bar, I sat for a good 10-15 minutes as various employees walked back and forth and all around me without so much as establishing eye contact. I had to flag down a barback to take my order sheet to give it to someone who could give it to the sushi preparers. FINALLY the bartender/manager/waitress who gave me the menu acknowledged my presence again and put my order into their computer. The eel roll might as well been a cucumber roll. The blue crab roll was cold and blah, and the rainbow roll looked drab. I thought this place would be as good as, if not better than, the sushi at Tokyo House. But I was wrong.

I love the sushi at the Sushi Cafe. It is inventive and delicious, but I will never, EVER return there. The service has never been very good, (we were once ignored for 15 minutes when there was only one other table seated in the place) but I could over look mediocre service for the quality of food, but I can do that no longer. According to their website, they "honor reservations". We know they are always busy, so I called and made a reservation. Well, we get there tonight and the place is packed, but there is no one manning a wait list or greeting guests. I manage to get the attention of one person who blows me off, and then I get the attention of someone else. He was dressed better, so I guess he was the owner or a manager. He says it'll just be a minute. 5 minutes later I ask him how much longer it's going to be. He says not too much longer since it's just two of us and we have a reservation. So, my fiance and I stand there and watch as the place gets busier and there is still no one manning a wait or anything. We watch as he takes two people to a table ahead of us, when they got there AFTER us (he knew them by name, so I guess a little nepotism helps way more than planning ahead). Finally, at 7:25 my fiance tags him down and asks how much longer, since we had been waiting nearly 30 minutes. He tells us it'll be a while, since we refused the seats he had offered us earlier. UM. EXCUSE ME. He had not spoken to us ONCE unless we had managed to get his attention. He definitely hadn't offered us seats anywhere. So yes. Good food, God awful service. There are other sushi places in Little Rock, and I will try every single one of them before I give this place another dime.

We've never had a bad experience at the Sushi Cafe. Last night we sat at the bar for dinner and watched a game on TV. Dinner was perfect, the food was fresh, the drinks were well made and the price was very reasonable.

Food was good can work on their service. It is a sushi place in little Rock, AR. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Service borders on bad.

This sushi place... makes me go.. WEEEEEE. First time I had crab cakes with mango salsa, then a dish of some rolls. It's pretty funny hearing our waiter say "The Ohmygosh roll". Another visit I had the Tokyo burger, The flavors I must say... yum yum. Savory. The combination of ground beef marinated in soysauce + cheese + veggies = delicious. Now the interior is contemporarily decorated, green booths and ambient lighting. The music is also really good.

Omg I love love love this place! I have eaten sushi all over, including some very high end sushi restaurants and I must say this is in my top 3 places. The rolls were very creative. I love how they even use crawfish (a local food) in some of their rolls. We ordered the Hawaiian, Arkansas, cafe, and the super cafe roll. The place opened at 5 (we were waiting for them to open), and it was full by 5:30. The place isn't very large, so I would recommend making a reservation. As a side note, lunch is only open until 2 and dinner opens at 5.

Sushi Cafe has the best sushi in Little Rock. The rolls are creative, the fish is fresh and the menu is extremely diverse so you can even take friends that are not sushi fans and have a great meal. They recently expanded to include a patio and a party room, but still expect a wait on Friday and Saturday nights. It is a popular place!

I've been at least a half dozen times. I've been with groups that have ordered damn near everything on the menu, and I have even ventured to try some of their more off-the-wall stuff. I have a pretty good idea of what their kitchen is capable of. Sushi: Is not the best stuff that the fish purveyors sell. It's pretty middle of the road, with nearly everything coming in frozen. Avoid the sashimi and individual sushi items as you're better off masking the weak flavor and mushy texture of their fish in some kind of roll. Rolls: Are rolls, except that these aren't particularly good rolls. My primary problem is that the sushi rice is permanently undercooked and hard. Additionally, some of the "sauces" that they squirt out of a squeeze bottle on the rolls are completely atrocious. I dare you to taste the sweet eel sauce straight and not gag. Curry Items: Are bad. The curry sauces, green and "other" are both watery and only vaguely reminiscent of curry. The crispy chicken was tough, chewy and lacked any crispiness at all. Service: Varies wildly. The last time I was in there, the three of us had perhaps the most incompetent server I have come across in Little Rock. He had less than zero idea about what was on the menu. Someone at the table ordered a soft-shelled crab and the server, with a blank deer-in-headlights look repeats back in the most confused tone possible "soft...shelled...crab?" Yeah buddy, soft shelled crab. Atmosphere: Is great. Lots of pretty girls, guys in button up shirts and fancy jeans and a buzzy hopping environment.

Absolutely fabulous. You will wait, but it's SO worth it. Alex (head sushi chef) will make specialty's upon request. He's also wonderful to chat with if sitting at the sushi bar. Recommendations: Appetizers - Wasabi Shumai (AMAZING), Wok Fire Edemame (ask for mild if you don't like EXTRA spice). Sushi -- Oh My Gosh, Hawaiian, Volcano, Arkansas Roll, Crunchy Shrimp (small roll). Dinner - Hawaiian Teriakyi or a Kobe Burger. Ahi Tuna Salad is also great. Dessert - Ask to have Alex make you his special dessert - it will be phenomenal! Enjoy!

I love sushi and sashimi but my family has never been fans. The Sushi Cafe changed that. The creative rolls, freshness, and great flavors won them over. Service has been great each time. Staff walks the fine line between can't get rid of them and where did they go. Many sushi places are intimidating for the novice but their menu does a good job of explaining items. I've only tried the rolls and few appetizers but do plan to eventually force myself to try more of the menu items.

Was very unhappy with the service. The worst stake!! With only 6 people at our table gratuity was included in our tab. The waiter never would come to our table. Very long wait for our food. NEVER had my drink filled and couldn't ask because I never saw the guy. Food was poor. However the sweet potato fries were very good....... The host wasn't very friendly either. Will not go back. The fact that he got almost a 20% tip is unacceptable. He also put other people on my tab. Didn't see him again for a while, so we just decided to settle later.. Hated my experience!!!!!!

We love Sushi Cafe. I come here often for lunch with friends, and we also visit regularly on our "date nights" for delicious food. I will be honest and say that we often choose Sushi Cafe when we aren't that hungry. But this is a GOOD thing: We want to come here when we're not starving but still want fresh, flavorful food, a great dining experience and a cocktail, beer or a glass of wine with our meal. On the most recent visit I had a cosmopolitan, and my server was very careful with its preparation and kept checking on me to make sure I enjoyed it. Once at lunch, our host comped us a "dessert" roll that had mango and cream cheese. Delicious! The last time we were at Sushi Cafe, this past weekend, we both ordered the Yasai Karokke, which are delicious little potato pancakes with veggies and a yummy sweet plum sauce. We both ordered this wonderful item because neither one of us was willing to share it! We did share some edamame. This was enough for my husband, but I ordered the fresh salmon sushi and the smoked salmon sushi. I was still hungry, and while I really do love the rolls here (they are BEAUTIFUL and so flavorful and inventive), I really crave the fresh, rich and perfect nigiri sushi that Sushi Cafe offers. We saw the order of the table next to us: four different kinds of colorful, yummy-looking rolls. That is always a good way to go at Sushi Cafe, but the simple route is always amazing as well. That's why I keep returning here: The small things matter a lot to the sushi chefs here. I've been coming here since they opened, and I do really like the expanded area they have because they've made the additional dining areas really feel like Sushi Cafe, even if they are a little different in look. We did think the last time we were there that the music was a little on the loud side -- it was hard for us to talk to each other. We'll be coming back I'm sure. I think it is the most pleasant, flavorful and sophisticated sushi dining experience in Little Rock.

I was bit disappointed with my dinner at Sushi Cafe after having thoroughly enjoyed lunch there last time. Having skipped lunch, I was starving. Started with Edamame. It came out steaming hot. The portion was very generous. Filled out the sushi a la cart order form and patiently waited. As my sushi order came out, the waiter informed me that they were out of uni. It'd have been nice if I was told as I was ordering. So after looking over the menu a few times, I decided to try the Kobe Beef Hamburger. -- Hawaiian Ahi Tuna was good; not great. -- Ikura was okay. individual ikura seems very small so I wondered if they were of lower grade. The burst of ikura did not produce the full-salty taste I am used to. -- Amaebi was not authentic amebi. I think it was just regular ebi. The tough spines were not present on the fried heads. Even the amaebi sushi part looked more like ebi. -- The Kobe Beef Burger was okay. It was actually bit too greasy and more overcooked than I had preferred. (I asked for medium rare but more on the rare side.) The accompanying sweet potato fries were very good. The waiter was pleasant and refilled my hot tea consistently. The Asian (I think she's Korean) girl who acted as the Hostess was bit annoying. She's the one with the huge mole on her face. She started leading me to the sushi bar and when I told her I wanted a table, she gave me a very non-friendly glare then questioned my wish not to sit at the sushi bar. She finally sat me then quickly left. I can't stand snooty Hostesses.

So, it's been two years since I reviewed Sushi Cafe last. I've not been in Little Rock, so when I got back in town I was eager to go check out some of my old haunts. Sushi Cafe is still good American-style sushi, and they've definitely turned into a bit more of a hotspot than they used to be. Unfortunately, I think the food has suffered a little as a result. The sushi quality was certainly good, but the tastes just weren't quite right - the sushi rice was a little mushy and the non-fishy fillings were okay, but not great. Still, the fish was good and the place was certainly popular. I certainly can't recommend it as the best sushi in Little Rock anymore, but it isn't a bad choice either.

I ended up going here for a quick appetizer while I was waiting for Fantastic China around the corner to open up. It was around 4pm Saturday and plenty of seating. I sat myself at the bar in front of the Chef. I was sitting there for about 5 minutes and no one is coming up to me to see what I wanted. Add to the fact that 3 waitstaff were standing at the table behind me idle chit chatting and folding napkins. I ended up only getting a crunchy shrimp roll. I'm glad that was it. The flavor was bland and the wasabi wasn't even hot. I had a whole junk of it on my roll and I didn't feel that tell tale burn of quality wasabi. More like wasabi lite for the masses.

As the other reviewers mentioned sushi cafe used to be very small & cramped, but they recently added a new addition with many more tables & yesterday I went for the first time during the lunch rush and didnt have to wait at all! It's a very nice atmosphere, the servers are very attentive. The menu is very eclectic for a "sushi bar" which was good for me because I dont actually eat sushi. The menu includes everything from your typical sushi rolls to kobe beef hamburgers & hotdogs, teriyaki chicken, buffalo wings, and much more. Two of my friends ordered several sushi rolls to taste and they were very pleased with the selection and over-all taste. I ordered the "buffalo plate" which was described as teriyaki wings but I didn't taste any teriyaki flavor at all, they tasted more like buffalo wings. Don't get me wrong the wings were delicious, just not what they had described. My other lunch-mate ordered the "hogs plate" which included grilled chicken topped with a delicious sauce, a new york strip, fried rice, and vegetables- all for $15- SCORE. The chicken was especially tender and flavorful, I had to try it :) The one thing we didn't really enjoy, one friend ordered a bloody mary- when he tried it his mouth was on FIRE, they put wasabi in their bloody mary's so word of warning! Overall a really good experience and I will be taking my sushi-loving hubby here soon!

I live in Northern California now, and have yet to experience sushi as good as Sushi Cafe's. Very creative rolls. You can get any type of roll you could ever want. The presentation is great. One of my favorite rolls that I have yet to find anywhere else was the Mango one (forgot the name of it), it has coconut shrimp inside with slices of mango and a mango sauce on top. really yummy. They even have rolls with crawfish and lobster in them. I used to like to sit at the sushi bar because the sushi cooks are so nice. I even got a free dessert roll a couple of times. If you aren't into sushi, there are plenty of other things you can order. The salmon is really amazing here. Its ground up with some special spices and sauce-has a really unique taste. You can find the owner/manager there working, often seating people. He is a super nice guy. The only negative thing I can think of is how small it is. Wouldn't recommend coming here on a weekend evening, you'll be standing up waiting forever. It's sort of a hole in the wall kind of place. Prices are maybe a little more expensive than others, but so worth it. Wish I still lived in Arkansas so I could eat here!

Incredible! Living is SoCal for 8 years, plus the many years in the North East, and I have to say this place is the best. The menu has great selections and the food is out of this world. From greeting, to service, to presentation they do it all right. The place is more than meets the eye. When we walked in I didn't realize it was two store fronts not one, so they were packed, yet the wait was manageable.... and well worth it. From Sushi, to creative rolls, and outstanding Kobe beef. The place is incredible. Enjoy it!

his is a must try for local and visiting sushi lovers. They only have about 4 booths, 4 tables and maybe 16 bar spots so expect a wait if you go at peak times. They take reservations, but your better off going at odd times. They're adding remodeling next door and supposedly expanding. They sport some real creativity in the signature rolls like the Heights, Spice Girls and Hawaiian. The Red Snapper Taco and the Hamburger are great for non-sushi friends. The prices are higher than average with most special rolls above $10 and 5-8 for the more traditional rolls. I think the nigri was around 3-5 depending on the type. Everything I've ordered has been spot on near perfection with presentation, taste, and service.

Went to Sushi Cafe for the first time last night (Monday). The overall appearance of the restaurant is very nice, but that all ends once you get seated. We seated by the host and offered to sit inside or in the patio area. The patio area is a nice area and on warmer days more pleasant are to sit during the day. However, this is were everything starts to go wrong. The waiter (Matt) came to take our drink order, but we were never given a menu to order from. We ordered a few drinks, an appetizer, 2 meals, some sushi and a plain roll. The first round of drinks and appetizer came out fairly quickly and the korokke tasted like any normal korokke you can buy and fry from an Asian grocery store. This is the point where the long wait and horrible service occurs. The rest of our meal took a fairly lengthy time to arrive at our table. My wife ordered a salad and the salad dish/bowl was fairly warm to the touch, which we found a little odd. We ordered another bottle of Sake when the found was brought, but the waiter seemed to have forgotten to bring it until we reminded him. Half way through completing our entree our sushi order arrived (4 pieces). We were expecting the plain roll to arrive shortly after, but that didn't arrive until we had finished our meal. With 3 sushi chefs working I wouldn't have thought it would have taken that long to get 4 pieces of sushi and one yellowtail roll. The taste of the food overall was just ok, I've had better sushi at other restaurants in LR (like Kiyen's) for the same price. Overall, due to the lack of and slow service at this place I don't see myself ever going there again. If the service was this bad for a Monday, I don't want to try and experience it on any other day.

This is not the greatest sushi/fushion I have ever eaten, but for Little Rock, it's probably the best here. I like the decor and at night it's a great place to meet friends and have some drinks and fancy food. I usually order the Seafood Tower (I think that is what it's called) or the Nepolion Tower. They are towers of sushi bits and veggies. Yummy stuff. The Pad Thai is not very good. But the fish is fresh and well presented. I really like this place.

I had heard great things from friends about sushi cafe from my friends and finally went in for lunch one day a few weeks back. Let me tell you, if you like random gnats flying in your face and a waiter that won't let you have a conversation with your friend due to their hovering over your table, then sushi cafe will be your go to spot. Don't get me wrong, the food was tasty. I tried some of my friends seaweed salad and dish as well and it was tasty, but the mix of questionably annoying service and random bugs flying around put me off to the extreme. I may give it another chance, but not anytime soon.

I go once a week. They pick up their fish on Fridays and (I think) Mondays, so I would try and make it in on one of those days If you're eating sushi. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is that it can get jam packed very quickly and seating is very limited.

Best sushi in LR! The Kamikaze and Oh My Gosh rolls are definitely my favorite. They have plenty of options though. They also have non sushi items on their menu for anyone who wants something different. Sushi Cafe used to be super crowded but they have expanded their restaurant and now it's not always necessary to make reservations ahead of time though it doesn't hurt. I was not impressed with their Kobe beef burger but my sister says it's the best she's ever eaten, so it might be worth a try. Staff is always friendly and available. Since expanding they also have outdoor seating and a private party room.

I went to Sushi Cafe on Thursday night and it was amazing. I have had sushi all over the country and this is some of the best if not the best. It's a tie between Sushi Cafe and Sushi Factory in Henderson NV for first place. Sushi Factory has the most creative rolls. You have to try the Hawaiian. I saw a sign saying they are expanding. They need to the place was a little cramped and the wait was about an hour. Other than that I can't wait to go back

I adore Sushi Cafe. Its one of my favorite places for date night. However, it doesn't matter if its a Wednesday or a Friday, be prepared to wait. I don't recommend calling for reservations - they don't really help. Grab a drink at the bar and just enjoy the company around you while you're waiting for a table - it's worth the wait. And with the new addition going in next door, it should be even more comfortable once they open that up. I HIGHLY recommend the Spice Girls. It's amazing! I'm a fan of the Razorback Roll as well. And if you can't decide, saddle up to the sushi bar and ask the chef to make you his favorite. Or he's more than willing to hear what you like and just invent something for you.

This is one of my top 3 favorites in Little Rock!! The heavenly wonton app is amazing. They have just a hint of cinnamon that pushes them over the top! Hawaiian, Valentine, and OH MY GOSH rolls are my favorite!

If you only like California rolls and can't manage chopsticks than I suggest you go to Sakura or New China so you don't crowd this wonderful little spot. My husband and I have searched the LR area for a place worth revisiting. There is hope in LR! If you've ever had a bad experience somewhere else and decided that sushi is not for you, give this place a try. I usually get their chirashi. The cuts are very fresh and clean tasting, and large compared to any other 'ABC' sushi restaurant. It does get busy, but the wait is only about 5 mins to be seated.

I love Sushi Cafe! The food is excellent. I would not recommend going for a weekday lunch, however, as it is packed. The service could be a little better, but overall it's a pretty good little sushi place!

  • J C.

Generally, the sushi is very good and the atmosphere is fantastic. Try the "Oh My Gosh!" roll or the "Spice Girls" roll if you are new to this place. The only factor keeping this place from earning five stars is the spotty service. For the price, the service varies wildly. You'd better not be on a tight schedule because your experience will be marred. Also, I get the feeling the servers slow-play tables whose patrons order wine. Once, a small group of us waited 45 minutes on a relatively-small order of rolls, on a fairly slow (by Sushi Cafe standards) night, and that put us behind getting to a movie. The server offered no explanation, even though we explained the situation, and therefore was denied my usual obligatory 25% tip - even though they know me by my first name. I used to go there frequently, and Robert knows how to run a good operation, but lately I have ventured out to try more sushi places in LR. Overall, their food is very good to excellent, but the service glitches at this price point keep me from giving them the full five stars, and I am generally very easy to please compared to some of the nitpicky posters on here.

The sushi here reminds me of the food at Koto but with MUCH better service. One of the better sushi places in Little Rock. My only gripe is that many of the sushi plates has mayo in it. There's nothing wrong with spicy mayo, but I'd rather not have it in every dish. If you like sweet drinks, I highly recommend the Wow Maritini. Small location, so it gets packed quickly during peak times. The bar area is TINY, but it's a cozy and cute restaurant.

I've been here many times and think the sushi rolls are the best in town. However, this week I was actually here three times for lunch and decided it was time to try something else on their very extensive menu. Nothing disappoints! The burger was great as well as the wagu hotdog. The dog was the best in town and probably the best I've ever had. So don't balk at not getting sushi in a sushi restaurant. You won't be sorry!

You know rule #1, eat where the locals eat! Get there before 6 and you should be fine for seating. The rolls are big, full of main ingredients with just the right amount of rice. If you see a roll and you don't want deep fried, or you want to substitute, they are willing to accommodate. Nice atmosphere, good food, and great service. This place does it right.

I live in the Heights neighborhood, and have been here several times, (pre & post renovation). The most irritating thing about this businesses is a complete lack of any semblance of order when you arrive. They need a hostess or a system, as it is now you have to catch the attention of the one gentleman in charge of seating. Not an issue on slow nights, but any weekend it's maddening. The sushi is overpriced for being average.

Yes, it's probably the best sushi in Little Rock with the most inventive and creative menu and fusion of flavors. It's also a very small restaurant that is always packed, but I think this is what adds to the coziness. I have heard that they may be expanding. I hope they don't lose the cozy charm.

I decided to try Sushi Cafe after reading some reviews on Yelp. As a reference I had been eating sushi twice a month in New Orleans so I was accustomed to good, fresh sushi. I can say that the sushi here was ok. Not great, not terrible. Just OK. It didn't have a great taste. Maybe the rice was off. The fish was just ok. Even the crab stick was just ok. Nothing impressive. Atmosphere was nice. The one thing that struck me was that there wasn't one Japanese person working in the place. Not waiting tables, not behind the bar. All the guys behind the bar spoke Spanish. That doesn't instill a lot of confidence in the quality or the preparation of the dishes. If the restaurant was open in NO (my frame of reference) they wouldn't last long. Since I am still learning Little Rock and I will try someplace else next time.
